Practicing tennis has helped me strengthen my friendships, I was scared to have friends and trust people, for many months my schoolmates bullied me a lot, I changed schools and everything was better for me, I made a friend with which I will share classes in DTP next session and that is good for me. I previously attended a gym but had no luck making friends, so I tried tennis classes at DTP and it was better for me. I would like to continue taking classes at DTP

Carlos has really enjoyed the classes, he has made friends who go to his tennis classes and attend the school where he goes every day, so this next session they are planning to attend together. As Carlos’ parents we try to support him in what he likes and he really enjoys the classes.

Make any comments about the impact that CYTF support has had on your child.

Definitely for Carlos it was a total adventure, he really enjoyed doing his own shopping, it was very fun for him to be able to do his own shopping. It is the first scholarship that Carlos receives so we decided that he would be totally responsible and independent, this helped him to be more responsible, he always took great care of his money, he always tried to look for the days that the stores had sales and he was very careful in what he bought, he learned to be a manager of his finances, he was really very happy with this, really thank you very much for it What did they do for my son!!

Personal story you’d like to share about any of your answers:

I’ve been playing tennis since I was three and it’s helped me grow, not only as a player, but also as a man. I have made a lot of friends at tennis as well. This summer, I have been working with my coaches to perfect the tweener. I’ve always wanted to learn how to do the tweener, especially since my coaches have done it ever since I started playing. I finally learned how to do it with their help! My coaches have helped me grow in more ways than one and I have gained confidence in my backhand and that my coaches are there for me.

Tennis just makes me feel joy, but it’s also so much fun. Tennis makes me feel like I’m great at something. My whole family supports me by coming to my tournaments and taking me to practice which helps me do what I love.

Tennis has helped Jackson grow into a confident young man. By being an active tennis player, Jackson has formed lasting friendships with his peers and developed strong relationships with coaches and junior coaches. Jackson’s coaches provide mentorship that we see being formative to the person he will become. With his coaches, he has been able to have conversations about his progress, areas he’d like to improve on, and about what’s going on in his personal life including his pets, getting braces, school, and more.

By playing tennis, Jackson has come to understand what it means to have good sportsmanship and it’s evident in how he conducts himself during practice and matches. He loves the game and respects the way it’s meant to be played. He strives to follow the rules, plays honestly and fairly, and often congratulates other players on their good points and wins. The positive attitude and values he’s learned on the court are reflected in other areas of his life.
Jackson is truly happy when he’s on the court. When he can’t get on the court, he’s out front with a rebound ball. We feel so lucky that he has found something that he loves and lets him shine.

Make any comments about the impact that CYTF support has had on your child.

Last Fall, Jackson’s dad was laid off from his job. We let Jackson’s coaches know and immediately, they provided support to Jackson and our family and told us about scholarship opportunities and the CYTF.  As a result of receiving the scholarship from CYTF, we were able to keep Jackson in practice without disruption. It was such a relief to know that Jackson would be able to continue to play while we were working through the job search and transition. The CYTF scholarship provided Jackson the stability he needed with tennis, his coaches, and his friends. We are so grateful for the help when we were trying to get back on our feet. Because of CYTF’s help, Jackson could continue with the sport that he loves and helps make him whole.

Thank you for helping our family and others.

Hi, My name is Advait. I love tennis and I am super focussed on the game. It is the major sport in my life. I play around 4-5 days a week and participate in local tournaments. I am working hard to improve my skills and fitness. I am glad with my progress and attribute a big share of the success to CYTF, for all the support. Thanks CYTF!!

Tennis has brought lot of improvement in my son’s attitude and also made him more responsible. After starting to play inUSTAtournaments, he has taken self-responsibility of improving fitness and does exercises looking at YouTube videos and tennis programs. This is really good for him and for us. Looking at him, his younger brother has started loving tennis and fitness

CYTF support has helped Advait immensely. He is a very good tennis player ranked decently on USTA junior rankings. We could not have afforded to train him so much via group lessons, personal coaching, indoor court practices without CYTF help. We appreciate it whole heartedly. Thank you

Tennis has been instrumental in helping me develop essential life skills such as respect, time management, focus, and responsibility. Through the discipline of regular practice, I’ve learned to balance my time effectively between academics and athletics, ensuring I meet all my commitments. The need to stay focused during matches has sharpened my mental concentration, which translates well into other areas of my life. Additionally, the respect I show to my opponents and coaches fosters a sense of sportsmanship. In one of my tournaments I received the sportsmanship award! Ultimately, I hope to leverage these skills not just to secure a college scholarship, but to continually push myself beyond limits and achieve greatness in all my endeavors.

Hi!
Thanks again for your help. From April 2024 I got 5 times 1st place in girls orange ball tournaments, twice got second place in co-ed orange ball tournaments and was able to play in Little Mo Tournament at Air Force Academy (Colorado Springs) this summer. My plans are continuing my private/group/family lessons to improve my tennis skills. I am 8 years old but USTA moved me to green ball competition level already. Thanks again, Amber

From Sahana:
I really like learning tennis because it’s an active sport and keeps me moving. It was cool seeing myself get better at hitting the ball just right and learning new tricks. Plus, playing with friends made it even more fun, and I met some awesome people at the courts. I hang out with them on my off days too. Tennis is like this awesome mix of exercise, getting better at stuff, and hanging out with friends, which makes it super fun for me!

Make any comments about the impact that CYTF support has had on your child.

CYTF has made it possible for my daughter Sahana to be involved in a sport she really loves. It has allowed her to improve her skills through coaching, and secure the equipment and apparel needed to be successful in the game. And without the Tennis Foundation, she wouldn’t have had the opportunity to learn so much, such as rigor, discipline, fortitude, adversity, losing with grace, and that it’s okay to lose. These life’s lessons cannot be taught through books or in a classroom. We are EXTREMELY GRATEFUL to CYTF for so many reasons!

Ari has gravitated to tennis and enjoys playing anytime he can. It is something we don’t have to force which was not the case with other sports. He continues to show tremendous improvement in a short period of time.

Elio has fun playing tennis. Especially against his brother and strives to bet him. He is also the life and energy of most of the practices, to get all players involved he is playing with having fun too. It is fun to see him play and engage tennis because he has a natural game that needs to be developed.

During my last tennis tournament, I had to play my good friend and doubles partner Lindsey. In the past I have played against friends too, but this was a tough match against someone at the same level as me, who I care about! The match was in the middle of the day in Utah, it was very hot on court and neither of us wanted to lose. We battled for two hours on center court and I narrowly beat her in the tie break. We both played a fair game and at the end I gave her a big hug and we went to get Boba together. This taught me to reach out to my coach and ask for help, overcome challenges, be true to myself and to be able to still be friends in difficult situations – no matter the outcome.

I still love tennis, it is still my favorite thing to do. I was sick this past week and was not able to play tennis and I was sad about it. My main coach also left this past week and it was difficult to talk about for a while. He had been my coach for almost 4 years. He taught me so much about being fair and to be thankful that I get to play as much as I do. He also taught me that coaches will change and learning how to be okay with that change.

CYTF has made a huge impact on our abilities to support Thalia’s love of tennis. It makes a huge difference being able to make sure that we can get her to tournaments with the right attire and equipped with snacks. It takes some of the stress off in being able to continue this goal for Thalia.

This CYTF support helped with getting a machine to help hitting at a court nearby. Also helps with consistent hitting that is hard to find.

For my daughter, participation in tennis helps develop discipline, focus, and time management skills, which are essential for academic success. The sport enhances problem-solving abilities and strategic thinking, reinforcing critical skills needed in subjects like math and science. Additionally, the resilience and perseverance learned on the court translate into a strong work ethic in the classroom. Her grades continue to to be high marks.

Gianna Maez is a 4th grader at College View Elementary. She has demonstrated remarkable growth on the court and in school. She has a better understanding of the rules and has refined her tennis playing skills. At school she has worked very hard to elevate her reading and math level from initially below average, She has now reached an average level and continues to work hard to expand her knowledge in these subjects. Gianna’s growth is not limited to just academics and athletics, she is growing more socially and emotionally intelligent. She is developing meaningful friendships around our community.
