The tennis landscape across Colorado is very different and youth may not have the same access to the sport this summer. Many programs and events are not being offered; and many providers (parks & recs, clubs/facilities, camps) are not operating or have limited capacity – at least at this point in time. With this in mind, the CYTF took a different approach during the 2020 spring funding cycle.
Instead of focusing on the required detailed itemized list of how scholarship dollars would be used per usual, their focus was on supporting the desire applicants expressed to engage with the sport, regardless of if they have a “formal” program to participate in or access to a court. Dollars are being provided for use in ways that are available to the scholarship recipient during the pandemic. Examples include: fitness equipment – jump ropes, ladder ropes, medicine ball, fitness bands, etc.; tennis equipment – racquets, shoes, tennis balls, etc.; and if a desired program is still offered – instruction and events.
